The annual Great River Race – Ham House finishing line

Great River Race Ham

The Mayflower Great River Race

Join the crowds at the finishing post, riverside at Ham

21.6 Miles from London Docklands to Ham in Surrey in September

Over 300 teams from around the world compete in this spectacular, late summer, event on the River Thames. The boats leave Millwall Riverside in Docklands at 9:15 am passing under Tower Bridge, Westminster Bridge, Lambeth Bridge, Battersea, Wandsworth, Putney, Hammersmith, Chiswick and Richmond bridges before reaching the finishing line close to the National Trust’s Ham House between Richmond and Kingston.

The competitors approach the end of their 21 mile journey at around 3:25pm. You can grab a beer from one of the refreshment tents and watch all 300 boats complete the course.

This is a classic event which started back in 1988. It’s a combination of competitive and leisure rowers, many in colourful fancy dress with decorated boats.

Best way for spectators to arrive is on foot or by bike. For full information about dates, the course and the boats visit the website.
