| Rules that came into force on 1 February 2010 mean that any retailer
that sells over 32kg of batteries per year (about 1 pack of 4 AAs a
day) is required to provide a free recycling point for consumers to

Unit 33 Adams House, Dickerage Lane, New Malden, Surrey KT3 3SF The workshop is linked with Kingston Cycle Campaign and the Royal Borough of Kingston's Travel Awareness Department. The session has skilled support from a trained bike mechanic to support Volunteers some with with disabilities to learn about cycle repairs and maintenance. Volunteers are trained in basic health and safety in using all machinery and tools and there are also opportunities for people to buy reconditioned cycles from Kingston Community Furniture. Residents in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames are now recycling
almost as much as they throw away, figures released today reveal.
During the fourth quarter of the 2008/09 financial year (covering
the period January to March 2009) the borough's recycling and composting
rate reached a staggering 47%. This is almost double the amount that
was being recycled and composted during the same time period last
year (25%). |

Kingston
Community Furniture collects unwanted quality reusable furniture
for redistribution to people on low incomes. This has greatly benefited
the environment as we have diverted the equivalent of more than 18
Routemaster buses from landfill. Since October 2005
we have redistributed furniture back into the local community to
over a thousand households benefiting over six thousand people. We
operate in most KT postal areas.
