Saturday
15th March 2008 7:30pm Kingston Chamber Orchestra www.kcomusic.org |
Kingston
Parish Church, Market Square, Kingston upon Thames
Concert - Saturday 15th March
7.30pm - Kingston Parish Church
Market Place, Kingston-upon-Thames
Conductor: Andy Meyers
Bass Clarinet: Helen Oughtibridge
Schubert: Rosamunde Overture
Meyers: Concerto for Bass Clarinet
(First Performance)
Beethoven: Symphony No 5
Tickets £10 (£7 Concessions) - Including a programme
and a glass of wine.
New Concerto for Bass Clarinet by KCO’s
Conductor – Andy Meyers Solo Bass Clarinet:
Helen Oughtibridge
There
are very few concertos for the bass clarinet but here is an opportunity
to witness the premier of a new work for this wonderful but under-utilised
instrument. Andy Meyers was inspired to write this work,
after hearing Helen Oughtibridge give a spectacular performance
of a solo Bass Clarinet piece in a recital. Andy describes
his compositional style as neo-romantic, no squeaky gates but
a fusion of contemporary tonal styles with a bit of jazz thrown
in. This 25-minute work is in one continuous movement,
but it incorporates the traditional three-movement concerto plan,
forwards then backwards with a central cadenza that contains
a surprising musical feature!
Helen studied Clarinet & Bass Clarinet at Trinity College of
Music, gaining First Class Honours in 2003. In 2004, she
was awarded a Trinity College scholarship to complete her Postgraduate
studies. Competition successes have included the Wilfred
Hambleton Award, the Gladys Puttick Improvisation Prize and woodwind
finalist in the Tunbridge Wells Young Concert Artist Competition.
The concert is framed by two well-known classical masterpieces – Schubert’s
energetic Rosamunde Overture and Beethoven’s dramatic Fifth
Symphony. This concert will certainly be a night to remember!

Adam
Wedd & The Independents www.myspace.com/adamweddandtheindependents |
"Distinguished singer-song writers are hard to come by. Often there
is little to separate a busker on the streets of Tottenham Court
Road from a multi-platinum artist playing Wembley Arena. What makes
Kingston born Adam Wedd stand out from the crowd is his ability to
fuse pop in its purest form with jazz inspired melodies. Perhaps
his finest attribute is his singing voice which is as British as
cups of tea and digestive biscuits. Every hook laden song leaves
you recollecting the joys of your early childhood when one would
jump in puddles and kick through piles of leaves. Adam plays with
a regular assortment of gifted close friends which includes a full
backing band and a flute player." -Luke Das For booking please email

| The Waggon & Horses Surbiton |
The Waggon & Horses is
at 1 Surbiton Hill Road, Surbiton, Surrey, KT6 4TW.
Waggon and Horses, which can trace its
history back to 1807, was recently
taken over by brother and sister duo Stephen and Mary King. A lovely
traditional pub in the centre of Surbiton with private room and
patio garden.
This character pub offers excellent all home-made cuisine.
Situated at the bottom of a steep hill, in the late 1800s the Waggon
drew most of its trade from the carriers resting their horses before
climbing up the hill. Infact, during the 19th Century an extra
horse was even kept at the pub to help any waggoner with the ascent.
Another proud regular in the Camra's Good Beer Guide.

years ago saw the opening of Bacchus as a Blues wine bar, and by
the late 80’s, the venue introduced DJ’s playing the
sounds of Funk and Disco. More live gigs were to follow in the
early 90’s including Indie/Rock bands such as Dodgy, Kula

success. This combination of DJ and gig nights has continued, and
today the current crop of local bands can be seen at the venue
as well as regular DJ nights of Alternative/Rock, Hip-Hop/Funk,
