Kingston's
Own Theatre
Kingston
is well known as a shopper's
paradise, for it's riverside pubs and good restaurants but if you want
a night out at the theatre then get in the car and go to Richmond. Given
Kingston's dramatic and royal past it seems absurd that it's theatreless.
Until now that has been the case.
But
thanks to the relentless planning and campaigning of the Kingston Theatre
Trust this is the point of change. Later this year work starts on a new
theatre at the Charter Quay Site on the south side of the Clattern Bridge
opposite the police station.
The
theatre is to have 3 performance areas: a main auditorium, a studio and
a rehearsal room. The design inspiration is, fittingly, Elizabethan and
it is expected to be a springboard
for local talent.
The
Kingston Theatre Trust organised an amazing pageant at the end of
May which thrilled those who turned up for it and took unsuspecting Sunday
shoppers by surprise. It was a stunning and informative spectacle which
really brought home to the Kingston population that it needs a venue of
it's own to display such talent.
