Recognise
her? Put her in Kingston's main shopping area, give her a mike, some
speakers and she'll stop shoppers en mass.
Her name is Kayley. She's
20 and hails
from Carshalton and began singing at a very early age. She
spent two years
at the BRIT School which is funded by among others, Mick Jagger,
Elton John, Richard Branson and Phil Collins.
When she was 17, Kayley entered a karaoke competition in Selhurst in Croydon.
With 1300 other entrants she didn't think she stood a chance but she won
first prize and singing has been her passion ever since.
Towards the end of last year, Kayley was approached while busking in Kingston
by the producer
of Barrymore's My kind of People. He asked her to appear
at Lakeside Centre. This was her TV debut and they liked her so much she
was asked to appear on My Kind of Music down at the LWT
studios. "My Kind of Music was great fun" says Kayley. "I
was one of the people Michael picked on which was a little scary but it
worked really well. I loved the singing bit as the feedback from the audience
was amazing".
Kayley loves busking in Kingston
as the people in Kingston are a great audience. "It's
a bit tough getting up at five in the morning to get a good pitch but
the audience make it really worthwhile. They are so friendly and supportive".
She
sometimes takes her dog, Abbey, along for company. "Abbey's a cross
between a Jack Russell and a wire terrier and getting pretty old now but
I still like bringing her along".
Kayley's most requested songs while busking are 'I will always love
you', 'Raining Men' and Titanic song
which just happen to be her favourite songs too.
She performs at Tiger
Joe's in
Esher,
at weddings and parties and has sung at a number of venues including Stringfellows.
She has a CD which she sells while she's busking. (Short MP3 download
available below)
Kayley
is working on her new CD at the moment and getting a manager but she would
love to here from any, good, songwriters. If you would like any more information
