International Youth Arts Festival

IYAF takes place in July in Kingston. It is an incredible international celebration of youth music, art, drama, film and dance which envelopes the town in a carnival atmosphere for a full 2 weeks at the height of summer. Visit the website for details

Thames Ditton Miniature Railway first Sunday of every month

A wonderful day out for the children. Places to picnic, cafe on site and you can buy tickets to ride the model railway. Run entirely by volunteers On open days they run a variety of trains most are steam locomotive operated, but they also run scale diesel and freelance electric locomotives. Turk Launches

The Small Boat Club

Bocketts Farm

This is a working farm with a wide variety of animals. Trailer rides, pony rides, pig racing, play areas and of course the animals. Good tannoy system announcing what’s going on so you don’t miss anything. Face painting usually available. The Wetland Centre

105 acres of inspiring wetland landscape in Barnes SW3. Over 140 wild bird species, 300 butterflies and moths, insects and amphibians. There is an observatory, a film introducing the conservation work done by the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, the Pond Zone which is a must for the kids and much more. Chessington World of Adventures

Garson Farm

150 acres of ‘pick your own’ fields, a brilliant garden centre with gift area (especially worth a visit at Christmas time). Farm shop full of speciality foods, cafe restaurant. They usually have a Strawberry Festival June/July plus other events such as Heavy Horses Day, Traditional Food Fair, Gardening Fair and the West End Annual Flower Show. Hire a boat from Harts Boatyard

They hire out electric boats which take around 6-8 people. Hire for a couple of hours and stop off at the Albany or The Boaters Inn for lunch. You could even take a picnic stop around Hampton Court. You’ll find them on Portsmouth Road, Surbiton. Call 020 8399 4009 for details.
