The Thames Valley Art Society was founded in Kingston upon Thames in 1906 by Lucy Millett, a woman with formidable organisational and artistic skills. She was the first woman teacher at Camberwell School of Art and lived in Hampton Wick. The first members attended “Lantern Lectures” in her studio in the Old Malthouse building overlooking the River Thames . The first exhibition was held in the Kingston Museum Art Gallery in 1906, two years after it’s completion, and the Society still exhibits there today.
