The Chakra Riverside – award winning Indian cuisine in Kingston upon Thames
1 Riverside Walk, Bishops Palace House KT1 1QN
Located next to Kingston Bridge, Chakra Riverside is the latest addition to the bijou cluster of restaurants drawing in the crowds during these warm summer evenings.
Having established a loyal following from their much loved Kensington flagship site, with their brilliant combination of bold flavours and authentic cooking techniques, Chakra opened its doors in Kingston in early July 2018.
The restaurant
Open for lunch and dinner with room for up to 100 guests and an alfresco terrace area, Chakra’s riverside spot has a relaxed yet stylish setting courtesy of design studio, Shalini Misra Ltd.
The chic colour palate reflect’s the bejewelled richness of India’s history where emerald green, gold and purple have a strong presence, coinciding with iridescent mirrors, lanterns and bergere-esq chairs which give a nod to India’s colonial heritage.
The Food
Lunch and evening menus include popular staples such as Lamb Rogan Josh; signature Kashmiri Lamb cooked with ginger, chilli, saffron and whole spices, vegan-friendly Chakra Channa; Assam tea infused chickpea cooked with channa masala and tomatoes and Fish Moile; popular Kerala style seabream fish simmered in a smooth coconut milk gravy.
Chakra Riverside also offers a weekend brunch menu available from 11am to 3pm. Dishes include a suitably spiced Masala Omelette and Mogo Chips, Anda Ka Burjhee otherwise known as Indian-style scrambled eggs, and a devilish Chilli Cheese Toast to name but a few. Guests can raise a glass to breakfast with help from Chakra’s Chai Bar, which encompasses an eclectic selection of organic teas courtesy of Heath & Heather.
